@dbastard1977 why would we need to steal from the Caribbean? We have ALWAYS had festivals,masquerades and cultural displays from time immemorial,this is nothing short of an up dated version of what we've ALWAYS had. And correct me if I'm not mistaken,but the ONLY other Carnivals recognized the World over are RIO, NOTTING HILL and NOW CALABAR......Trinidad, I don't think so...lol!

Wow, stealing from the Caribbean now....how interesting, thank God for the slaves Western Africa sold off to the Caribbean. Look how far our little Trinidad Carnival has gone...the US, Europe and now Africa. Too bad Trinis didn't copyright our festivals

@etimsam The actual competition has stations along the route where they are judged, then the final judging takes place at the stadium. Each band has their own floats which are decorated as part of the display, and a number of 'sound systems' on trucks playing music in between the different displays/dancers per band. Each band has anything up to 500+ taking part, so it's very big,very competitive,and very well organized!

Thanks vixx02 for taking the time to talk to me on this. Still have questions, though. Do the bands compete in the stadium or on the streets? If there's only 5 bands, what about the many people, trucks and dancers following each other? Are they still part of the 5 bands? Are you writing this from Calabar? Part of my family is in Calabar, and part is in Port-harcourt. But I love Calabar very much. I m looking to buy a land in Calabar and build a family house. It's a good place to live

@etimsam YES! Every year they have the annual carnival, and it's actually a competition, to see which band is the best. There are 5 bands competing, and this year Passion 4, and Seagulls one! The competition is very fierce and competitive, and everything is done in secret (the costumes, practice etc!) till the day of the Carnival when all is revealed!

@etimsam This was part of Donald Dukes band....Bayside! After all that, Bayside didn't win!
