This video explains how the amount of shoulder rotation you get during a windshield wiper forehand can differ from a classic forehand. After you hit the tennis ball, you typically have to rotate a little bit more than you otherwise would on the windshield wiper. There are a number of reasons for this, but in this video we keep our focus relatively narrow.

  • Will, to me, your "classic forehand" looks like a combination of the classic and the WW forehand. Would you agree?

  • @FYB2007 Would you say the WW forehand is the forehand if you want to have spin, or does the classic forehand add enough spin for regular hits?

  • i like buttholes

  • I hit kinda like this, my main problem is that my follow through is bad and I will occasionally punch myself in the face

  • @FYB2007 Sir, I respect your videos a lot. BUT, windshield wiper topspin is actually somewhat bad for your wrist because many people tend to overuse their wrist for the topspin. I would know since I have experienced TFCC Inflammation. Do you know rehabilitation methods for TFCC possibly?

  • enough chitchat and pseudo technical, that is just over lift effect. no power, only ctrl, period.

  • Using the WW forehand on approaches makes good sense due to the added topspin. Since you´re further into the court hitting the approach, a standard forehand will often result in hitting long.

But the WW forehand is good to have from the baseline as well. It´s sort of a safety shot thanks to its extra spin, and should keep your opponent from approaching. Remember: most of the points, especially on lower levels, are decided by someone missing, and not by someone hitting a pure winner...

  • Hey, can you give examples or explain why/when someone should go for a WW forehand vs a standard forehand? An instructor once told me to do that on short, mid-court balls as I'm rushing the net only.
