Nothing is ever going to be as good as the original recording. Times have changed-Shane McGowan is more drunk than ever & Kirsty Maccoll is no longer with us. Its still my favourite Christmas song though,& I dont think anything else can top it. When you're out in a pub & it comes on its probably the only Christmas song that most people not only know the words to but dont feel a fool singing either. I mean,who really is going to sing along to Slade in a packed pub?.I cant see any hands up.......!

All I can say is...I saw the pogues for the 3rd time a few nights ago, Shane has got his emoiton back, sounds great and the band are as great as ever.

That was really bad. It's as though Shane has lost the emotion in the song and is just goin through the motions. Katie's voice and pronunciations just don't fit the song. Also the pianist is rubbish and the tin whistle sounds crap. I met shane in a pub back in August and he looks far better than he does here. He got new teeth!
