This is an amphibious bike, which was built by myself during the summer of 2009. This is a bike that can travel on both land and on water, with no changeover in between. It was built using mainly recycled materials, mainly from the Freecycle network.
The basic idea was to fix a series of bottles along each side of the bike, so that they lie about 0.15m above the road surface. The rudder was made using a sheet of metal, fixed inside the spokes of the front wheel. The water propulsion system was much more complicated, and was achieved by creating a flipper at the rear of the bike.
For more information, please visit the blog at http://amphibiousbike.blogspot.com for more information about the project. This shows how the bike was created from the start, as well as covering the mathematics and the various problems along the way.
Awesome build! Would love to make one of these myself at some point. Where did you get the old mineral water bottles from please?
