That's why you always, always have something to chock the wheels in place for when the truck goes upright.
As for the brakes holding it, they were probably caged. You take a special "T" shaped bolt, insert it in a hole in the air can, and through a hole in the plate in front of the brake spring. Turn the bolt a half turn so the T on the head catches inside, and tighten a nut on the outside to pull the parking brake spring into a retracted position.
Man, what a pisser. I would have thought also, that that thing would have ran out of air and automatically applied those brakes for as long as it was laying on it's side. I'm glad to be out of towing bus.
