My 1999 Honda Civic LX (automatic tranny) running Bonnevile at full bore. I've had my car up to 105+, but she just wouldn't break triple digits that day. The elevation was over 4000 feet, it was a warm day, and the car had my family and a bunch of luggage in it. Doesn't help the old D16Y7 motor has 150 thousand miles and burns a quart of oil every thousand miles. For an old beater, it was still a blast. If you're ever near Salt Lake City, Utah, Bonneville is highly recommended. Where else can you go fast legally on miles of smooth salt? Sorry if it takes a while to get to top speed in the vid, but that's the reality of a Civic trying to go 100mph :)

  • "but hey, i can say i ran flat out at Bonneville and survived."

and thats all that matters! i would love to take my accord out there. i've done 120 on the streets so i wonder what i could do with nothing but space and time! :D

  • Yup, flat out with family and luggage on board. My car now has 185k and needs a few repairs. The car's getting old, so i don't think i'd try that again :o)

I will say this, if you like your car, you WILL get salt everywhere and it will likely result in some rust from it under the hood, etc. That stuff gets everywhere.

  • Yeah... it's not as exciting in a Civic as it would be in a Vette, but hey, i can say i ran flat out at Bonneville and survived. My heart was certainly pounding as running down the salt has a weird feel to it.

  • Weak. My stock 99 civic si will do 137 mph. And that's at about 7 half rpm and red lines in 8

  • Yeah, the lower civic trims like DX and LX just have very little power, and the automatic tranny just makes it worse. Ex or Si may have been able to do 125 or 130. But for that trim level, that was actually pretty good.

  • You did that with your family in the car? Jeeeeeezzzzz

  • Getting any Civic automatic to go over 100mph is hard to do! I had a 96 LX that I could get to do 115mph on Hwy 280 once I put a cold air intake on it. But that was totally maxed out and going by the Speedo not GPS. Could have been much less... But my B18C1 EF Hatch and ZC equipped EF 4 Door were a blast! 120MPH all day long! Got to 130mph in the Hatch...Great video and kudos for hauling the whole family!! LOL

  • The salt slows you done. my friend and i did a road trip in a 07 mini. top speed exceeded 150 in new mexico on pavement. only 140 on the flats. Very fun. Great experience.
