  • I mean this in all seriousness. How do you get a job as a train driver/engineer? Is there a school?

  • @baktu1 As long as you have a high school diploma or a GED your education is taking care of. They go through the process of hiring, college kids, older guys, and ex-military people so it all depends what "mood" they are in. Extra education never hurts but that is all you need. You apply online at the railroad(s) website(s) and if accepted you will get called to interview. I hope this helps and sorry about the length, my friend!

  • I always loved it when you could get them to wave. My Grandpa used to work with BN..and he said it was awesome to have people wave at you. Made you feel recognized.

  • You got that right...Amen to that

  • The articulated auto rack had an open door. two open doors to be exact.

  • How are they able to PULL 100 cars like that??? Are they using more than one engine? I don't really know about trains and I thought the longest one would be 50 cars. Goodness, I was wrong!

  • were is this

  • @baktu1 You might try MODOC...they train most all segments of train crews, including Engineers. Just do a net search for railroad schools / training and MODOC should come up....a number of Class 1 Roads hire their graduates, as well as some of the better regionals & short lines. IF...your a veteran, you may also be eligible for a

student loan for it also, I believe MODOC has programs for Veteran training as well, but, check with them.

  • Do yourself a favor look for another career .its a high stress job on you and your family its one of the hardest jobs too get and its one of the hardest jobs to keep that is if you can work for a class 1 railroad Its not a life for everyone thats for sure. GOOD LUCK..

  • @CQDX018 thanks for the info. I think that would be a great career.

  • @CQDX018 Thank you... I'll check it out.

  • @AC44Alex Yeah because those are newer locomotives!!!!
