Turntable playback recording of the A-side from Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song/Hey, Hey, What Can I Do" 45 RPM 7'' Stereo vinyl record.
Released in the United States in 1970 under the Atlantic label (Catalog# 45-2777).

A bit of technical information:
Vinyl record played on a Technics SL-1600mk2 turntable with a Audio Technica AT440MLa cartridge. The sound signal from the turntable was fed into a Sansui 9090DB amplituner's phono stage and then redirected to a Cakewalk UA-1G USB Audio Interface, connected to my laptop PC, on which it was recorded, cut, encoded to a 320kbps CBR MP3 file (with Audacity) and then later merged and sync'ed with the video (with VirtualDub).

There was no sound filtering done. This is the raw audio feed.

The video portion of the clip was recorded with a Casio EX-Z850 digital camera.
Sound and video were recorded at the same time.

  • Are the TONEARM and CUING LEVER SUPPOSED TO WORK IN UNISON LIKE THAT?

And, about your SL-1600MK2: IT LOOKS NEW! Did you recently buy it NEW-IN-BOX, or did you buy it during its manufacture period/take the extremest care of it thru the years? Thanks.

  • @dwsh1 Yes, that's how it normally should work when the automatic functions are engaged. There's a separate electric motor under the tonearm base responsible for the lifting mechanism.

As for the turntable, no, I've bought it used about 4 years ago. It may not be visible in the clips but it has it's share of visible tiny scratches if you look close. Also, the previous owner glued a cleaning arm base to the plinth, which I probably won't remove without damaging the rest.

  • LET THE LED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @krueger151 ... i wish people would do that more often.

  • What would interest me is knowing how you well the digital version you've recorded using the Cakewalk compares with the original vinyl record one played through your sound system. Any comment?

  • Watching the vinyl turn makes this song so much more epic!

  • Try playing at 33/13. Sounds way different, but equally as cool. :)
