Drago Malnar, the last Croatian shingle craftsman, demonstrates the traditional methods of selecting and felling trees for shingle-making and hewing logs using mallets and wedges to make the uniform wood slats that become protective shingles for rural homes - just as his ancestors did 200 years ago.

I wish for this: That one man or human being would go and learn from this man till he could do it himself very well. Is this precious shingle making man still alive? If I were younger and had the opportunity, I would go and learn this trade.

Most shakers I know can tell how the wood sounds out by wacking it with an axe(I can do it myself.Western Red Cedar gives off a different sound when you hit it,though).This guy is pretty good.
