@theojtg2 I don't no why you are all upset. i get just as frustrated at people that like to bash ethanol. and you don't see me replying like that. ethanol isn't a perfect fuel and it probably shouldn't be subsidies by the government, but nether should oil. and oil gets way more money than ethanol and no one seems to care at all about that. we couldn't get funding for the second generation bio fuel if corn ethanol hadn't gotten us 2,200 fueling stations. you might want to think ahead a little.

gasoline energy balance is 0.74 -26% Diesel 0.83 -17% Ethanol1.67 +67%. and you have the balls to bitch about Ethanol's energy balance. another thing the energy used to make ethanol can be renewable. in 2010 US produced more than 13 billion gallons i doubt their is a oil producing country on the planet that could pick up that much slack. if you don't think ethanol is helping i personally want to hear your brilliant ideas on how to make an additional 10 billion gallons a year. - 3 for efficiency.
Also, this increase in demand for corn increases deforestation, soil erosion, and river runoff of toxic chemicals (sometimes ending up in drinking water). So the production of corn ethanol increases global climate change, along with other forms of environmental degradation, and increases the price of food. Overall, not a good alternative to out dependence on oil. However, other forms of ethanol production do seem to be a better choice, like ehtanol produced from switch grass.

all the documentary is saying that CORN ethanol production increases demand for corn, which leads to an increase in the price of corn. And it just so happens corn feeds the animals you eat, therefore increasing the cost of food on your dinner table. Not only that! So much oil is used in the production of corn all the way from the tractor to the Semi-truck delivering the corn after harvest.
