judging by the radiator grille, i would venture to say 1957-1958. i owned a 1959 that was identical to this one, even to the steering column-mounted gearshift, except for the grille ! grreat little car. loved it. it never let me down.

the script makes you think they were talking about a woman! LOL but I love the roots cars my first car was a singer vogue..oh how I wish they would return to making a limited amount of these cars..I miss them

my dad used to collect these cars , at one time i think we had four or five of them parked in front of the house , hence the word parked , they always broke down

I grew up in the fifties and remember this model. A bit of research shows that it replaced the first post war Minx which ran from the late forties to 1956. It was announced in mid 1956 as the 1957 model; the design was code named Audax and ran until early 1967. It was designed (partly at least) by Raymond Loewy studios and like many British cars of the time looked like a scaled down American car. In the first few years the appearance was changed annually and this is definitely the Series I.

Fantastic info. Thank you! I've updated the description to indicate that this is a 1957 film.
You mentioned Raymond Baxter earlier, and I googled him. Any voiceover examples you could point me to in order to compare this voiceover with some of this other work?

I think this is a little earlier than 1959. 1956 or 57? The voice over sounds like Raymond Baxter.

I just looked at the film can, and there's no date on it. What about the car makes you suspect that it's earlier than 1959? (I'm primarily an American orphan car fan, but I'm anxious to learn.)
