"The Shack" by William P. Young, or Paul Young, is currently without a doubt the most popular book within Christian circles. In fact, its popularity is so widespread that is currently the seventh bestselling book on Amazon.com.

But should Christians be reading this book? Many other Christians, such as Matt Slick, have accused "The Shack" of teaching heresy regarding God's nature, especially the Trinity.

Matt Slick of CARM (Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry) interviews William Young, the author, in this clip and exposes some of the errors in the book. This clip is from Matt Slick's radio show, "Faith and Reason" and is from carm.org.

  • Who are we to question the way God chooses to show himself to His kids? All Young was trying to do was show people a loving God. Christians attacking other Christians is ridiculous. Who are you Mr. Slick? Have you all of a sudden arrived? Do you know IT ALL? Young did not say The Shack was the infallible word of God. He is doing the best he can to reach people in a different way, This makes me sick.

  • 08Manderz, no one has a problem with people trying to reach the world in a different way. But the problem arises when these people attempt to "reach the world in a different way" to the extent of teaching error, and that is the real issue...

  • This is a stupid conversation. No body living has ever met him so what makes Mr. Slick such and expert on God ...Leave Mr. Young alone God himself has given him the ability to wite this on a level that over 5 million people can identify with the book. This is the same way religious people attacked Jesus "how can you say you know our father abraham and you are not yet even 50 years old.

  • No, Kayree, that's COMPLETELY different. Jesus explains how He could know Abraham in John 8:58: "Before Abraham was, I AM." Jesus knew Abraham because He is Yahweh, He is GOD. Attempting to make such a parallel as you've attempted to make is, to put it bluntly, blasphemy.

  • this interview is ridiculous.. the shack is a FICTIONAL book.. i liken it to the chronicals of narnia.. which is also fictional and representing a christian world view.]

people like this who tear the book apart are not acting like the body of christ should.. building each other up. they are treating the book like a theological text rather than a symbolic book that demonstrates the personaility of God.

the most important thing is that GOD IS LOVE. this doesnt sound like love to me.

  • why would anyone want to read this garbage anyways..so much stuff does not speak Gods word better then Gods word. It is cool to write parbles as long as it submits with Gods word.

  • Well I care about God's truth, so I'm gonna go read my Bible to see what God thinks and then go live my life :)

  • @RAIDERJO76 hey :) :)

i dont want to get into a pointless internet dispute, so im gonna go ask God what He thinks and then go live my life. have a nice day!! :)

  • Weaponsoftruth, why do you speak of God's love as if it is either His only attribute or at least overrides all of His other attributes?

As for your concerns about how the body of Christ should be "building each other up," I agree, but does Scripture not also teach that we are to expose error and false teaching within the church?

  • The reason why we, as Christians, need to point out where these works of fiction are wrong, like the Shack and the Da Vinci Code, is because readers who are biblically illiterate will think it's true. As sad as that might seem.

Mr Young has some non biblical views such as the denial of Penal substitutionary atonement (try reading Isaiah 53 Mr Young) and it needs to be pointed out.

  • This teaching that God submitts to man is heresy from the pitts of hell.

We are to submit to God, and if Mr. Young even came close to submitting to God, he wouldn't write such garbage.

this book is blasphemous and Christians need to stand up and be mad as )(&)(&
