We flew up to Flagstaff KFLG to drop off my buddy Dean because the tail wheel on his Cessna 140 blew last weekend when we flew up here so we had to leave it here to be repaired. So at this point Dean has taken off back for Deer Valley KDVT and we are in line to takeoff.
As were rolling down the runway I'm not happy with the performance so I aborted the takeoff. After taxiing back to take off again and going through the check lists again I realized I'm now at 7000' and of course I'm not going to get the power I did back in Phoenix.

  • i had a very similar incident but i think my reason for aborting was being unfamiliar with the fixed pitch.. i had flown the constant speed version and was used to about 500 more RPM than i was getting lol. in my video u can see i also abort but right after rotation

  • @DiamondPilotDan Yeah I imagine if your use to being in a fixed pitch that you may tend to forget these things. Thanks for watching and I subscribed to your channel too. :-)

  • @DiamondPilotDan It's things like these that as a low time pilot will make me not forget in the future. :-)

  • Great job noticing there was a shortage of RPM, even better job doing something about it...

It's amazing how much runway ya chew up there in Flagstaff after being in Phoenix, especially on a warm day. I've double checked my mags on several occasions up there to make sure I was on "BOTH".

  • @MacGyverGTP Thanks for that. Yeah a little leaner mixture is needed up there :-)

  • What type of intercom do you have? It sure is very quiet and clear.

  • @cholubaz haha same

  • @cholubaz haha yeah at the time i thought it was a bad mag.. thats what i told the FBO lol but when i think about it... yeah probably my issue. 2250 RPM at rotation at sea level just felt weird..especially fully loaded lol. I was used to hearing it bump up to 2700 and ease back to 2650..

but no doubt i would have done the same thing you did in this video lol! i just wouldn't have figured it out

  • @rdfelty my batteries were dead on my other camera so I was stuck with this and couldnt get a good angle out the window. :-( Hope to get some setup like yours in the future.
