How much Japanese did you know before you went to Japan? I'm taking the rotary trip to Japan and how much Japanese do you think I should know before I go? And how much do you think I will pick up while I am there? (I'm staying for a year)

I am considering going to Japan with rotary for a year. Was it hard to get into the program? Did you have to attend a lot of meetings? Thanks!

@actor2100 S'Long as you're a decent kid who shows drive and self-motivation in the interviews you should do fine. Rotary never guarantees that you'll get the country you want but showing them that you're studying japanese will help push you in the right direction. Meetings a-plenty btw.

I had studied for about a year. And I am now pretty much fluent. I recommend you try and pick up how to intoduce yourself in Japanese. AND start learning how to write in hiragana and katakana as soon as possible.
"Konnichiwa, Watashi wa, Kerushi33 to moushimasu. Hajime Mashite. Amerika kara kimashita. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu."
"Hello, I am Kerushi33. Nice to meet you. I am from America. Let's make this a good year."
Is a good start.
