  • Was this Maxim Gorki around in 1990? Because I was an Australian 2 year old living on Pitcairn Island, and i suffered an accident. The Maxim Gorki came by and took us to Tahiti :)

They introduced me to Cheburashka :)

  • @Treemeadow. May be. It was the last voyage of the Maxim Gorkij in 2008 I was on. Glad that the ship was such a great help to you.

  • Thanks for the interesting additional info. I liked the cruise on that ship, should like to repeat but unfortunately it does not depart from Amsterdam any more.

  • i worked on this ship as a young photographer for a company called marine photos based in colchester england.

the passengers were german and the crew were russian in a time when russia was still a communist state in 1983. i had a great time . i managed to have a relationship with a russian crew member for a few months.

  • I encountered a bunch of Russians and Germans from this ship on a booze cruise in the Bahamas in the mid 90's. None of them spoke English, but they all spoke German, in which I'm fluent. We all had a great time, drinking and dancing under the tropical sun. Good times.

  • Originally built as the 'Hamburg' for Germnan Atlantic Line in 1969. She starred in the 1974disaster film 'Juggernaut' (as the Britannic) before becoming the 'Maxim Gorkiy'. She will be renamed 'Marco Polo II' after her tranfer to the Orient Lines in 2009.
