  • That's a lot of books to wade through. One could literally read nothing but Star Trek novels. I just finished the first book in the Destiny trilogy and found it surprisingly easy to follow, in spite of the number of new and old characters and the events I've missed out on in previous books. The wikis Memory Alpha and Memory Beta also helped a lot when I ran into a character or alien I didn't recognize or remember.

  • @rocketdave There are many that know I am a devout Trekkie that reads the novels as they are released. After being asked numerous times which of the novels were intergral to the events leading up to the trilogy, I made this video. Sure one can look up characters and events that transpired before the trilogy, however, that is not the same as the experience of reading it in the novels. The Trek novels now share continuity unseen by the respective series. And that continuity goes beyond Destiny.

  • @Section31Captain I'm sure those who have read all the books leading up to it have a deeper appreciation of the Destiny trilogy, but David Mack does a pretty good job of not alienating the more casual fans. Once I finish Destiny, I'll probably go back and read more of the earlier stuff, but curiosity prompted me to skip straight to Destiny rather than toughing it out through 20 other books before learning what the big deal was, i.e., why it caused Memory Beta to put up major spoiler warnings.

  • @rocketdave That is exactly how I described reading the novels leading up to Destiny. Also, as I mentioned, the novels can boast of continuity unseen by any of the series (all those that whinned about it becoming convoluted be damned). Since Peter David went off the deep end some time ago, David Mack has emerged as the best Trek novelist. As for Memory Alpha and Beta, I am the type of fan that has corrected mistakes seen on its pages.

  • it makes me want to buy some of the books watch one do you recommend?

  • @OUTSIDER40 I have been asked this many times over the years. It is not an easy question to answer due to the fact that the novels are written to show Trek's continuity. In order to fully apreciate the events of the Destiny trilogy, you must read all of the novels in this video. However, if I were to recommend any of the post series novels it would have to be the Deep Space Nine: Mission Gamma series.

  • The S.C.E. books are awesome! Titan series is awesome too. I have most if not all of the post Nemesis novels so far. But I do also have the two Captain Pike novels.
