I find the tempo perfect. And Lucia Popp was a superlative Handelian.

Very good performance perheps only supplanted by Kirkby´s one!

She's a really great singer. I wish she sang it in italian.

Breathtaking beauty and elegance. Perhaps Fritz Wunderlich thought so too. He was in the cast as Sestus in this 1965 performance in Munich.

I really like the faster tempo and Caesar as a bass-baritone, even though they're kind of stylistically incorrect (especially the latter).

Kleopatra:
Ich bete euch an, ihr Augen,
Ihr Liebspfeile,
eure Blitze
erfreuen meine Brust,
Um Erbarmen bittet euch
mein trauriges Herz
das euch stehts
sein allerliebstes nennt.

Charming, but the far-too-fast tempo detracts from the almost overbearing sensuality of the music. Listen to the Sills/Rudel version. This is almost a jingle.

A pity the voice is so distant. But of course dear Lucia makes you forget that with singing of this quality. She was lost to us far too early.
