That was excellent. Well, in a back-handed way. I like those sessions where it all goes seemingly wrong but ends up being one the games you'll be talking about in years. There was a lot going on there. I think the PC with the tapestry was already possessed by something when he made the choice to even approach the baddies in the tavern. Bad idea, said the narrator.

Sounds like an awesome game! Great work by the DM rolling with the punches. Yeah it might have scrapped lots of prep work, but it opens the door for lots of fun gaming.

@vomitbrown1 Yes, his timing is perfect as I've been recently doing some OSR reading and brainstorming, including Swords & Wizardry, Flame Princess, Labyrinth Lord and Dugeon Crawl Classics. I'm going to be using Swords & Wizardry as the "core" game if/when I run this "old-school" game but adding some house rules inspired by the others (and a few RPGs not named here).

Fantastic stuff! I've come to live by the "don't plan too far ahead" motto. Letting the players' actions drive a campaign in unexpected directions is half the fun.

@ivanmike1968 Not gonna lie: your videos are inspiring me to get a group to play Lamentations of the Flame Princess!

"Don't plan your game too much because you never know what your players will do." Amen. :)
Other than the wacky PVP backfire, sounds pretty much exactly like how a sandbox is supposed to go. Good show.

@azirk83 - I don't even know that it was PVP so much as the player trying anything he could think of to save his skin once he realized how deep he was!!!
We watched with mixed horror and glee (mostly horror).

I still love that your retainer was essentially Carl from Jimmy Neutron

@tbshawk - Yeah, next one will be named Sheen. Of course the funny thing was that as Duras the Magic user was freezing to death I took the time to put Carl's stats on a real character sheet. This was useful for exactly 7 minutes real time...

That sounds like an amazing campaign you are playing! I think not knowing what's going to happen next is what makes stories entertaining and fascinating! How many sessions have you guys played? How close to the "weird fantasy" genre is campaign or is it just a darker form of "vanilla" D&D?
Awesome vids!

@vomitbrown1 - Hmmm we tend to play every two weeks, sometimes every week. I think the game has gone on for 3-4 months or so, so probably close to 10 4 hour sessions. The campaign isn't set in a LOTFP world, but the DM is using a "weird fantasy" vibe for sure, so it's not vanilla D&D by a long shot. Come to think of it, I don't think many of my games have been all that vanilla either...
I agree that the fact that you never know what will happen is the best part of the game!
