Steve Badalamenti, Decades, My Life In Music, Trumpet & Flugelhorn

Trumpet player Steve Badalamenti was born in the Italian American section on the west side of Brooklyn, NY, known as Avenue U. His dad and mom were able to sing most Neapolitan melodies. At an early age, he was always fascinated by the sound of musical instruments. Harry James was a miracle to his young ears. Steves first trumpet lesson finally came when his cousin game him an old beat-up trumpet; at the age of 14, he took lessons from a neighbor known as Professor Joe Aiello. The love of playing the trumpet was, and still is, a great romance for him. In his senior year of high school,he was chosen to lead Lafayette High Schools swing band. After serving in the army during the Korean War as a band soloist, he enrolled under the GI bill at the Manhattan School of Music at the same time playing with various jazz groups and 17-piece orchestras. Steve can be heard on soundtrack recordings for the movie for HBO-TV, Witch Hunt, a Dennis Hopper film, Naked in New York, and an Eric Stoltz film Auto Focus in addition to some product singles for radio and background solo work on a David Bowie recording. Steve also enjoys giving private lessons in his Lincoln Park studio. His wife, Barbara, has recently retired from being an Operating Room technician and sometimes travels with Steve to playing engagements. Having a brother, Angelo, a movie soundtrack composer,is a wonderful and proud blessing.
