In 1997 representatives of the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia and the Forestry Development Authority visited villages in the vicinity of Sapo National Park (Liberia, West Africa) shortly after the disarmament of combatants following a 7-year civil war. They were accompanied by Nigerian peacekeeping forces. This video captures the spontaneous reunion of conservation workers and friends and inhabitants of Jalay's Town-- a small village which borders on the west side of Sapo National Park. These people had been in hiding and fearful of their safety for years and had left the road to their village partly uncleared to prevent the rapid entry of unfriendly forces. Villagers accompanied the group to the nearby Sinoe River which is the western border of the park. This was the first post war effort to reestablish Liberia's only national park following a tragic civil conflict.

Stunning video. The traces of the war still remain unerased in spite of the sincere joy these people show welcoming their old friends. Whoever said all ones ever sees on Youtube is mere rubbish, has been proven wrong!
