@chris534xrs1 The Beetle just so happen to perform well in this specific test. However, if you watch other kinds of tests, like those that modern cars pass with high marks, you'll see the Beetle perform horribly. I'm talking specifically 'offset test' performed by the IIHS (US) and the Euro NCAP.

If you got rear ended in a Beetle kiss you ass goodbye.

These cars can open a hole on the ground by rolling... so... good asphalt!
Impact absorption = zero!

@chrisevans2000mm2 Man, you're wrong as wrong can be. The Volkswagen Beetle was designed and constructed by Ferdinand Porsche. Hitler just had a rough idea about an affordable car for the German people, he himself didn't know jack-shit about engineering.

The Beetle was a very safe car for the time it was built, but it wasn't designed to perform well in crash tests. It just happened by chance.

And figberglass bodies aswell as neck squeezing airbag reinforcment. From what I remember old bugs were made to be "the peoples car", little did they know that it would far surpass that goal. They even have more uses than SUV's!
