This song was originally recorded by Don Henry, the writer of the song. He is also the cowriter, with Jon Vezner, of Kathy's signature song "Where've You Been". I think the first verse is about Martin Luther (the Lutheran Church guy). The second verse is about when JFK got shot, and the last verse is about Martin Luther King Jr. getting shot in 1968,
