Ledger Family Win Oscar 2009 Part 1

Being the favorite winner of this year's awards season, late Heath Ledger has collected the top prize for his lunatic performance as Joker in "The Dark Knight" as he is named Best Supporting Actor at the 81st Academy Awards. Accepting the award on his behalf were his father, Kim Ledger, his mother, Sally Ramshaw (Bell), and his sister Kate Ledger.

Reading off the list of thank you in a calm voice for the acceptance speech, Kim said receiving the award is "ever-so-humbling". Adding to his speech, Sally who called his son an inspiration stated that the family chose to celebrate what Heath has achieved. Meanwhile, Kate confessed that she wishes her brother to accept the award himself, but added that they humbly accept on behalf of his daughter, Matilda.

Best Supporting Actor 2009 for The Joker in "The Dark Knight"- Oscar Winner Heath Ledger- His family, dad (Kim Ledger), mother (Sally Ramshaw) and sister (Kate Ledger) receive the Academy Award. Matilda Ledger will receive the Award in her 18th birthday.

why didn't one of his co~stars or his ex & daughter pick up the award, I don't doubt that he should have won.....however it seems that no matter how the family felt, I do not doubt their grief but this seems as if it was a photo opportunity. Why didn't his father accept it alone? just saying.....

The Oscar goes to the winner but in this win was posthumous , which means it goes (as Kim Ledger says in part 2 ) to the next of kin ..in this case Matilda . Matilda is a small child and cannot accept the award for her father, herself. Her mother Michelle was not his widow and they had split up before his death so it would be in very poor taste and highly improper for her to accept the award , even if it was for Matilda . That left his family to accept it for Heath on Matilda's behalf .

Your welcome , it was the best and right choice , I agree. As Matilda couldn't accept it herself , her fathers family had the most right to accept it on her behalf. Let's remember they are Matilda's family too . I believe other than Matilda ..of course , Heath would have wanted his family, who he loved and knew him best , to accept it over anyone .
