Do you happen to know the specific model of the Colt, because I haven't seen a Colt 9mm with an A4 (flattop) receiver.

It was a colt M16 registered receiver. The owner probably put a standard M4 upper on it and just used the FA bolt carrier!

@NineMMAR15: Forgive my dumb question, but when it comes to caliber conversions with AR-15's, I'm in a lost world. Is it possible to use a 9mm bolt carrier in a .223 upper receiver? Do I need to swap out the barrels too?

The only thing that is the same on a 223 vs 9mm is the lower receiver. When the 9mm is in used the mag-well block has to be added. Several people I know who own the 223 M16 have bought the 9mm block for their receiver and then bought a complete 9mm upper that makes it alot cheaper to shoot!

@NineMMAR15: Oh, so the bolt carrier and barrel are the same?
