A leading women's rights activist in Jordan, Asma Khader, recently sat down with Julie Vahdati, host of "A Woman's World," to talk about the practice of "honor killing."

Ms. Khader discusses what needs to be done to stop this terrible practice -- the murder of women by relatives who believe their families have been somehow dishonored by the women's behavior. She also talks about the overall state of women's rights in Jordan.

Asma Khader is a lawyer, teacher, author, and leading advocate of the campaign to strengthen legislation outlawing honor killing. She is also the general coordinator of Sisterhood is Global Institute/Jordan (SIGI), a non-profit human rights organization established in 1998. Ms. Khader served as former president of the Jordanian Women's Union and member of the Arab Lawyers' Union. She is also the founder of the National Network for Poverty Alleviation. She won the United Nations Development Program's Poverty Eradication Award for 2003.
