This is me playing Christ Lag in Todesbanden by J.S. Bach.

The organ I am playing is the Aeolian-Skinner Organ in the sanctuary of the historic Park Street Church, Boston, MA.

  • Is that supposed to be an organ ?? it sounds more like a box of screws and nuts being dropped on to the floor.

Why this attempt at racing at a break neck speed ?

This chorale should sound -not all fast, but very deliberate and majestic, letting the listener hear and feel the heavy clanging of the iron fetters represented in the pedal.

  • @bihonning it's a Joseph Whiteford Aeolian-Skinner. Obviously the mic is not very good quality. The organ sounds great in person....just like a real G. Donald Harrison organ.

This video is from 3 years ago so I can't stand listening to this just as much as you can't. Please check out my newer videos....love to have some comments.

  • looking on this from almost a year and a half ago, i realize i really sucked back then hahaha.

  • no, you didn't

  • well, maybe didn't suck, but i can notice a big improvement.

  • A fast tempo and joyful feel is appropriate for this piece - it's actually an Easter Hymn: Christ lay in Death's strong bands, for our offenses given; but now at God's right hand he stands, and gives us life from Heaven. Wherefore let us joyful be, and sing to God right thankfully loud songs of Alelulia! Alelulia! So Transgirl, I think it would be very appropriate for a funeral - but I hope that's a long time away for both of us. Riverscuomo, great job! And Christ Lay in the Toads Bed LOL!

  • i actually played it at our church's good friday service ;-)

  • Good job!

  • @bihonning If you think this is too fast you're a nutjob!

  • Dear Bihonning: Thank you for dispelling the notion that most organists are sarcastic, elitist, bitchy, nitpicking prigs. While this particular pipe organ may not suit *your* personal taste, it doesn't mean that others don't find it pleasant. As for me, I would like to offer a few words of encouragement to this young organist and future fellow colleague, so "kudos!" to "riverscuomo06." As for bihonning: keep your your caustic and esoteric critiques to yourself.

  • @riverscuomo06 yeah fuck that guy, great performance.

  • @bihonning I think your being a little too critical. "it sounds more like a box of screws and nuts being dropped on the floor". ?? If you know anything about the way recording sound and projecting it onto a computer works, you would know that not every video camera has high quality sound and that in fact, most have low quality sound. As for the speed, listen to Koopman's version of this piece and tell me if you still think this is too fast.

  • @thisbe88: No man don´t make jokes like that ! The Saviour of mankind is too kind for that !

  • nice
