"Chai-khooneh" (meaning "Teahouse" in Persian)
This style of Persian dance is refered to as "Jaheli." The word "Jahel," meaning ignorant and juvenile, refers to a Persian male street character who is very macho and somewhat of a neighborhood bully. The neighborhood teahouse is a typical place for a "Jahel" to hang out.
This piece was performed by Shahrzad Dance Academy (SDA), a California based Persian dance company in the U.S., founded by Shahrzad Khorsandi in 1996.
SDA performs both locally and internationally at various events such as cultural festivals, weddings, school & library educational programs, and formal concerts.
