Doris Roberts talks about studying with Milton Katselas and the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Doris talks about how Milton has taught her everything about acting, and dealing with the show-biz world. She says that she will be eternally grateful to Milton. She believes that Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse is the best, most extraordinary teacher in the world. Doris talks about how Milton asked her to play Anatasia a few years ago. She did a lot of research, learned two phrases in Russian, and when she did the scene the class loved it. Milton said it was wonderful, but told Doris that he wanted her to be mythical, and that he didn't like her hair. He asked where "Doris' empress" was. When she redid it, she looked completely different, but it was Doris Roberts' empress of Russia. She brought more of herself, instead of hiding behind someone else's picture. Doris says that it was a great lesson to learn. She then went to NY and did "Bye Bye Birdie", and she had never been in a musical before and it was outrageous. It was Doris being outrageous. Doris says that Milton Katselas teaches you how to have an open mind, to find a way to deal with your director—to listen and to be clear about what you need and what you want; to find a way of communication that doesn't harm the other person and their ideas, but doesn't stop you from saying what you feel.
