Couple of quick tests Grant and I did for his film.
Idea was to plan nothing and see what we could get away with and what we couldn't. (since my AE and comp is getting to the 4 year old mark.. It's really struggling with VFX...
This was all meant to be 1080p HD but my computer's just struggling with it too much and AE keeps freezing up or one of the other many problems I get when working in HD so it's SD.
Getting a Mac soon to help AE along though because my comps on it's last legs here.
The AK muzzle flash is a bit off because it was the first one I did.
The muzzle flashes didn't take that long, the fire on the car took a good few hours.
Started adding in VFX breakdowns to show people how I did it, thought it's more insightful.
Song's Injection - Hans Zimmer (from the mission impossible 2 soundtrack)
Using action essentials 2 from videocopilot.net
Grants film's called The Chnoble effect, it has some good military shooting and we're trying to get ahold of a 50 cal for it.
I'm writing a film called Impasse, it's about a fugitive, that's where the burning car comes in. But I'm thinking about filming that live action and then just enhancing it.. Donno though.. Don't know if I'm willing to spend money on a car just to set it on fire.
What element (file Name) of the action essentials pack did you use for the smoke in the Blood hits, i cant find one in the pack that looks anything like it. Please help! Thanks.

@TheRealRoboRick I actually used a powder hit for the blood, I very rarely (if ever) use the blood package, tried stuff with it before - it can easily come out looking awful, so I always just use particle and powder hits

Why don't you make tutorials? haha

@MarkSteinMT everything I do is covered by loads of different people in loads of other tutorials, I might actually post tutorials in future, I've been thinking about it because there has been high demand.. When I start working with 3D it's likely I'll post tutorials then since that's when you can get really creative with visual FX and AE

You've got the proper color correction, vfx, DoF, but you really gotta get with the resolution.

@PivotProDD Yeah I really wish I could have VFX in HD, my After Effects and computer just can't handle HDV video, it either crashes or jumps through the video and completely ruins my FX.
I really need to upgrade my system but I also need to buy a new HD camera.. It's a LONG way away but I reckon, realistically it will be September 2011 before I can get the money together to actually work in HD
