There's a very sexy argument for everyone in the world to DREAM what the American & European advertise in Hollywood. Or, as the GOP presidential candidate, Mr. "999" Pizza Boy, would say, "Just create a REALLY BIG Pizza!"

Problem is: the bigger the "pizza," the BIGGER the PIECES the very richest would have; the absolute majority of the world's people would still end up with the crumbs, even though the "big pizza" is made by billions of hands, using all of the world's available ingredients.

@HenryDavidT Destroying most of the earth has allowed the 1% of the world to steal the majority of the material wealth of the world. Homeless westerners can find food in garbage cans by bright streetlights, but it's not like, if not for environmental regulations the world garbage cans would overflow with food. The 1% in general steal from the poor of the world and waste most of the energy no doubt, but there isn't' enough stuff on earth for everyone to live like movie stars and TV characters.

Please, Note: I'm not blaming the poor "southerners."  'Tis why I said it's a SPECIES PROBLEM, not a regional one, although Westerners, the "northerners," think only poor people need to curve their population growth "because most European nations have already achieved population stability."

Yes.

But what the WEST doesn't say is: it's taken 500 years of the WEST using VIRTUALLY ALL of the World's Resources, through any means possible, to get IT to be at this point in its various achievements.

@bluegreen1138 Keep in mind we are talking about a SPECIES, not a family or a small tribe. It's very hard to put a break on a large phenomenon that's been on a TRAJECTORY for a long time.

People believe we'd be able to solve most problems we create, on the one hand. On the other hand, MOST Americanss don't even believe homo sapiens are CAPABLE of impacting the world in any scary way!, because SUCH THINGS/impacts are about PROCESSES & TIME SCALES are beyond the grasp of the average American.

@HenryDavidT It seems to me we need to reduce the human reproduction by 80%. We should have been focusing on funding the R&D, advertising and free access to family planning for a long time now, but the current broken monetary system depends on continued unchecked growth. This is of course impossible to maintain on a finite planet. We will let the machine destroy everything before it grinds to a halt, or will we be able to switch the Leviathan off while there is someone left to to do it? We'll C

These short programs are great; but they are band aids. Band aids do wonders, on small cuts or wounds.

But when you're talking about massive scales of assults on earth --- and not necessarily because we want to destroy earth so we can hasten our own extinction but simply because of homo sapien (#1) ignorance [blissful & willful] and (#2) population increasing on a exponential curve in the last 300 years --- I doubt these band aid solutions would go that far, however uplifting they are.
