"An Atheist Story on Creation and Love" (freethoughtvlog)

We all know the Biblical story about the creation of man and women. We also know these stories are just fantasies. But in past en present times these stories are used to suppress people. In this new freethoughtvlog Boris van der Ham tells an alternative, ancient story (more than 2300 years old!) about creationism and the origin of love. And this creationist story doesn't exclude people and their preferences.

Since 2010 Dutch MP Van der Ham has a weekly 'freethinking video blog' (vrijzinnige lezing) in Dutch on YouTube. Every month he does one in english. He reads from an inspiring work of freethinkers from present and past.

We kennen allemaal het scheppingsverhaal, en wat er over liefde, mannen en vrouwen geschreven staat. Hoewel er feitelijk niets van het verhaal klopt is het in het verleden -maar zelfs nu nog- gebruikt om onder meer vrouwen, homo's en lesbiennes te onderdrukken. In deze nieuwe (engelstalige) vrije lezing vertelt Boris van der Ham een alternatief scheppingsverhaal over de oorsprong van de liefde. Wij lezen deze week uit 'Symposium' van Plato, ruim 2300 jaar oud.

Voor de vijfde keer een engelse versie van de Vrijzinnige lezing! Sinds 1 januari 2010 publiceert Van der Ham wekelijks 'vrijzinnige lezingen' op o.a. vrijzinnig.com, www.joop.nl en youtube. Met de videoblogs wil hij de geschiedenis schetsen van het vrije denken. Wat zeggen oude teksten over de vraagstukken over onze tijd, en kunnen ze verdieping geven aan onze vrije samenleving?

Stories are still stories, no matter what fool spews them. We are born, we die and nothing comes of us. What use is there in life? Helping others is a waste of time, and yet so is self-satisfaction. In the end, there is nothing. Pitiful creatures we. We eat the fruit of the dirt until, at our last breath, we slump into it again.

I'm not sure if they misused Darwin's "story" of survival of the fittest or if they misused the Bible and that it's normal for the Jews to be considered as traitors, after all they did betray Jesus... however, one thing is for sure: million's of people died and Hitler did it with the Pope's blessing, not with Darwin's blessing. As a matter of fact, Hitler had banned atheism and any Darwinian writings. BTW, how does a scientific observation prompt you to go genocidal?
