It IS fake, someone made this later as a 'joke'.
In other news, at least my nightmares will be different now.

I came here from Ashen's Tech Dump, I thought it was fake. But I was horrendously wrong.

This was seriously a real game?!?!?!? Holy shit

@hercrabbiness yes, he IS in a box, and is not in existence. but WHERE'S THE PLUTONIUM?!?!

@hercrabbiness Schrodinger's Vinnie Vole's Existential Nightmare? :O
-
@hercrabbiness Ahh, so in this case, Vinnie is Schrodinger's Vole.
I'm stuggling to decide whether developing a game from what was initially conceived as a joke about a vole suffering existentialist angst is ironic or a worrying indictment of the mean intellect of people online. That Stuart Ashen's rather inventive ruse was regarded as real enough for someone to not only believe it to be a genuine game, but actually take the time to recreate it, is itself an existentialist nightmare.

@femmebot3000 Life imitates art. If Mr. Ashen (or anyone else, for that matter) were to create a fake piece of media, it's not that farfetched that someone would bring that idea to reality, if only as a proof-of-concept. I doubt the maker of this game actually thought it was ever a real game; they simply saw an absurdist joke in Mr. Ashen's concept video, and followed up with the absurdist joke that is this game.

@LateBlt yes, but in doing so, the maker of this game has undermined the humour in Ashen's original concept. Also, plenty of people--some of whom have commented on this post, yourself included judging from your disclaimer in the description--accepted seemingly uncritically that this was a real game and not an absurdist joke.

@femmebot3000 Ah, I think I understand the intent of your original comment a little better now. I suppose I'm as guilty as the rest since I wasn't entirely certain myself whether the game was real or not, but it must be understood that games back then frequently were literally this small and pointless. (Consider Inanimate Racer, a "real game" which I made a video of some time ago.) It is the nature of humanity to take something (humorous or otherwise) and recast it in different lights over time.
