  • Forget electric cars........Golf carts OK.....Milk Delivery Trucks OK.......Invalid Chairs OK.........BUT CARS NEVER!

Why?.... Gasoline weight for weight contains about 40 X the useable energy that even the best battery today does...............another reason......

Why? The energy requirements go up BY THE SQUARE of the increase in speed.

Double the speed and you quadruple the drain on the battery(ask your Physics teacher why this is!)

  • Add this to your equation... an ICE that converts fuel into work is all of 15% energy efficient at the wheels... that is a FACT

EVs are closer to 80% energy efficient before adding brake regeneration into the equation.. which can recycle up to 70% of the energy used to accelerate the vehicle which in your ICE car is burnt off via the brakes.

At a steady speed the only losses are rolling resistance and aero which is only SQUARE of the cars cd!

    Most Evs use only 200wh/mi.

  • Yeah, you're right. But at higher speeds, an internal combustion engine is more efficient though. EVs are perfect for city driving.

  • At constant speed ALL vehicles use less energy than when they're accelerating. That applies to EVs as well as ICEs.

  • But at higher speeds, it takes more energy to maintain that speed, due to friction.

  • You want a debate do you?

NO.... at CONSTANT speed you only have aero and rolling resistance. To INCREASE speed you have to accelerate the vehicles Mass + aero + rolling resistance.

The energy used to accelerate the mass becomes vehicle inertia and that is what is re-converted back into energy via regenerative braking.

An ICE has NO advantage at ANY speed over an EV! It only has different gearing because it has a narrow power band, EV motor have 100% torque from 0 rpm.

  • If they make the Dodge EV and its under 30k they can consider atleast one sold because I will buy one. This is how you get people excited about non gas powered cars by making something that can kick ass! I just hope the morons running Chrysler dont screw it up.

  • Please make them before you go bankrupt Chrysler!

  • Considering the electricity you put into you EV is most likely going to come from a fossil fuel burning power plant, you are doing the same damn thing anyways! I guess it's one of those "out of sight, out of mind" kind of things. Until electricity is produced in a cleaner way, all these EVs are just a waist.Wanna help the Ozone? Out law cows!!! Please Dodge, Never start replacing HEMIs with batteries!

  • @SCOTSDOC - you seem to be taking this personally ... no one will take your ICE car away from you.

But you need to recognize that you don't get to decide what happens here - the market will decide. And the market IS deciding. Multiple states are putting in charging infrastructures. It's real. This is what happens in a free economy. Consumers decide.

  • = ) I hope Dodge builds more electric cars that look as sporty like this Dodge EV.

  • To hold down cost all auto brands chevy, ford, chry should share the same battery pack .some type of standard..that can easy and quickly be changed out..this would cure the charge time..slide one out slide one in and back on the road you go.

  • I only need a full electric car that can do 60miles a day. We have electrics that can do way more. Time to bring them to market but the car should be made so that when new battery tech becomes available that the car can be easily upgraded.

  • In the end ICE's will not be removed. if this was to happen we would all already be driving EV's or HHO powered cars. If we did remove ICE's however, there would be a recession far worse than the credit crunch we just experienced. What is needed is a spread of the wealth between EV's, ICE's, Hybrids, HHO's etc. This would reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and bring down the cost due to the lower demands and higher competition from other fuels. Electricity prices would soar as would Hydrogen!

  • the new christler boss canceled that. project...

  • that little yellow thing looks like the Lotus Elise.... :/

anyway, until the millitary starts mass producing tanks or at least APCs on batteries, don't expect much...

all technology starts first with millitary aplication, and only then does it come to civilians, of course in a less tech advanced form

  • This is great idea car looks good too. You are on the right track. Hope to see one soon
