why do people run this microsoft programs on startup that take on normal hard disks less than 1 second to start.

The time it took to shutdown and get back INTO Windows wasn't impressive. The impressive part was how quickly the programs loaded.

@korencek and they start fast because microsoft programs share libraries which are already loaded into the memory.
