I saw Eric Johnson live back in the late 90s with the Steve Miller Band. He came out and said some things to us (that we couldn't hear well enough to understand), set up a delay riff to play as background, and played his set mostly with his head down.
We, the audience, just sat there mezmorized. It was the coolest show I've ever been to.

Very nice and funny . Good feeling and good groove . Thanks for this moment of guitar ...

what is this song?

Sitting down for a song is completely underrated. It's a brilliant way to draw attention to what you are doing. As long as that isn't your whole set...

I kinda agree, but you know those days where music just flows through you. You can be thinking or doing anything else, but as long as your fingers kee moving...good stuff comes out. Mostly I think it comes with practice and eventually a feel for the instrument. But I really love those moments

Just as good, albeit entirely different approachs...

well arent you a dumb ass!
I think, if you play guitar at this level, it's possible that your brain is fully occupied; that you'd be concentrating so much, that you wouldn't really be paying attention to your facial expressions or other elements of "stage presence." For many of us, his playing is fully and completely entertaining, and if it detracted from his guitar playing, I'd prefer he didn't smile or dance or whatever it is you feel his "stage presence" lacks. If only my fingers had this kind of stage presence...

i agree, as a musician im aware that stage presence can be vital but for a guy like this.... he is that damn good he doesnt even need to do the whole steve vai crazy face thing.... it like you said.... his fingers are enough to not need anymore presence on stage!
