  • Please note Abastin, that I'm not disputing the agreement of the soldiers in the wider activities and politics of Nazism - there's a lot of evidence to suggest that many disagreed; and I think it would have been a very difficult, if not fatal, decision indeed to have refused to serve.

However, in serving a state you ulimately serve it's character - hence Nazis.

  • the soilders off worldcwar 2 didnt all fight for hitler. my grand father fought for his country. not for hitler

  • @spukgeist same thing unfortunatly .

  • what does that mean

  • I Fully Respect All The Brave German Sailors Of The DKM Graf Spee. They Fought valiantly for their country. I Don't Believe The The Germans Wehrmacht Were Nazis. They Where Trying To Serve Their Country The Best They Could. May The Couragous Sailors Of The Mighty DKM Graf Spee Rest In Peace & God Bless Them. I fully Respect all sides of World war 2 either it's american, british, French, Russian, German, Japanese, Italian, etc. They were only answering their country's call to duty.

  • Peace Guys!

You're both a little bit right (a little bit wrong).

Langsdorff was certainly no Nazi, (more Imperial German Navy)and was privately ashamed of being ordered to conduct 'Commerce Warfare', as it is a form of 'piracy' (Depending of course, WHICH side you're on. LOL). He definately took great pains to ensure no loss of life,

His crew (at this stage of the War) were not predominantly Nazi but simply young boys, just like ours.

Captured Captains and Snr. Officers were kept aboard

  • @spukgeist It's called throwing a blanket of guilt over every German during the war.

An argument you can punch hole into all day long.

I also had relatives in German military then, an Opa that was a member of the German Bund also had two friends who were members of a

    Fallschirmjager unit near Normandy.

Yes, the horrific attrocities exist, but the list of exceptions to the above blanket argument is without end, be proud of your Grandfather.

  • @Mancastrian Who is passing around the BS that so many soldiers, sailors and airmen in the German military were "Nazi's" ?

Not to argue against your comment but I see this everywhere!

Nearly a complete fabrication and pure propaganda.

If the definintion of a Nazi is being a member of the Nazi party, then we are talking a tiny insignificant fraction of soldiers of all rank were actual members.

I would like to see anyone come up with facts that prove otherwise.

  • @nahuhell o thats right...germans were white.

  • @ericvonp you are child, please go to sleep.

  • war is a shame.

  • did any niggers die?

  • She was a beautiful ship. I am not advocating Nazism, simply admiring beautiful marine architecture.

  • RIP brave men! Ideology had nothing to do with their sacrifice! By the way, Captain Langsdorff committed suicide; honor taken to the extreme.

    Peace!

    Miguel

  • I have to agree with many on here that all Germans were not fighting for Hitler, just as all Americans were not fighting for Roosevelt; but as always, the winners get to write the History Books...

  • Its so sad how many brave young men die on these flagships. Nothing this great can last very long. God bless the dead from the Hood,Bismarck,Tirpitz,Arizona,Yorktown,Royal Oak, and any other sunken vessel with casualties. Thumbs up if you admire these young and senior crew members that are alive or KIA.
