G-man is short for Government man it has been used since the 50's

I have my own theory. G-Man is among the few survivors of an alien species that were driven to near extinction by the Combine. He possesses the ability to warp reality through either natural or artificial abilities. He is using humanity to wipe out the Combine and save his own species no matter the loss of human life in the process. Primarily, he manipulated Gordon to take over Zen, (formerly Combine enslaved) inspire a human rebellion, and to cause the mass genocide of the Combine.

Gman is an being that exists outside of time and space, and while he is able to indirectly effect it by warping space and time, he can not interfere directly, causing him to need Gordon as a avatar through which to work his will.

@KnoxCarbon That would make sense...he wants revenge...I had this idea that G-Man is being controlled by something non-human, like he is being used as some kind of avatar and whatever is controlling him is speaking through him, I saw a pic on deviant art that sparked this.

Also, Eli the last chapter says "Our common friend" and it means that both Gordon and Eli have made an contract for hes purposes. I'd say that hes not a human... He can warp through time and reality make someone invincible aganist thier own will, but what if its only is written on the contract? Maybe the title "Half-Life" means that G-mans victims (Like Gordon) have sold half of their own life, but for what purpose? Is the victims slaves? Or is the Victims themself?

Gman is an ancient god often referred to as the king of nipples. He is the ancestor of all vikings. He helps gordon freeman because he senses that he has got viking blood and his nipples are filled with swedish power.
