NOT FOR AIR is overlaid on my PepsiCo 1985 campaign reference copy. This was so that, presumably, whoever had that recording couldn't make public use of it (you know, like posting it on YouTube) without proper permissions. The commercial DID air in its entirity at least once on MTV and likely elsewhere (Superbowl anyone?). This is the full length version of a more common 30 second Miami Vice - Pepsi ad.

  • Even the commercials were better in the 80's. Damn I miss that era and of course Miami Vice.

  • Looking at it now, it's cheesy. But back then, DJ was HOTT and so was this song. Glenn Frey rocks, and still does. I had DJ all over my room and locker in high school. I'd still do him. LOL

  • Sorry for the multiple posts. It has been a long time since the shoot. Don and Glenn each received one million for the shoot. DJ acted like a stuckup asshole and Ridley commented how he forgot the humble origins he came from. When we were setting up the lights and cameras in the sound stage, we kept the windows closed and it got over 100 degrees in there. Then when Ridley called for the first team (DJ and Glenn), they sweated their ass off. Ridley chuckled. So did we. DJ was difficult.

  • I forgot to mention, The word around the set was that the commercial, scheduled to air only during the academy awards, cost $15 million.

  • I worked in this commercial s Glenn Frey's stand-in double. It was a great 10 days of shooting. Ridley was a great director to work for. Really down to earth. HE began directing commercials way before he went into movies.. This was a 5 minute or so commercial. The dance was shot in Miami High gym and all the kids were high school age. DJ's stand-in double burned out the clutch on the Ferrari. I got $3500 for 10 days of great fun. Anyone have the full 5 minute version?

  • 0:43 - 0:51 - I laughed my butt off at Don Johnson's sarcastic reply ("MY SONG!")

  • Anybody got the ad where Glenn says, 'Hey, pal, I'm everywhere!' and Don says, 'Knock it off, Glenn!'? I'd love to see that 1. Where's it located?

  • What's so sad is that according to info I found, this was directed by Ridley Scott director of Alien, Legend and Blade Runner.

  • i love this commercial!!

  • Everytime i see this, it makes me feel like this could've been something they showed just before a movie, in the theaters and drive-ins. Miami Vice (1984-1990) will always be one of my favorite 80's shows. Long live Vice!!

  • This is a 512BBi Ferrari not a 512tr....

  • Hell i miss Miami Vice, seems like it was only yesterday.
