Public viewing of Upper Kotmale tunnel extended
November 5, 2010
People in large numbers thronged Upper Kotmale to view the underground tunnel. Five more days are allocated for the public willing to have a glimpse of the tunnel.
The President yesterday opened the underground tunnel of the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Plant which is considered to be the longest tunnel in the country. It was opened for the public viewing for three days starting from today. By this afternoon, more than five thousand people had viewed the tunnel despite the heavy rainfall. A special bus service is in operation from Talawakelle to the tunnel. Taking into consideration the response shown by the public, the Ministry of Power and Energy in a statement said it has been decided to keep the tunnel for public viewing for five days from 17th to the 21st of this month.
