I had a Inspiron 6000 with a bad CD drive, so I took it apart until it worked. Its a good enough fix that I can get Windows installed while I'm waiting to get a new drive.

  • If I remember right, theres a screw on the bottom of the laptop at the end of the drive (not near the edge of the computer, about 6 inches in) that holds the drive from sliding out. You may need a thin flat screwdriver to gently pry the drive out after removing that screw. Good luck.

  • OK, how do you pull out / fix the inspiron 6000 CD rom? Mine isn't working so I need to figure out how to get to it. I tried taking the keyboard out, that didn't work. I tried removing screws on the back and pulling it out.. That didn't work.
