@carwrtr1 We do give them the chance, BMW and VW are trying to bring it back, over 50% of X5's sold in the past 2 years have been diesel. But we need more, Honda would do great bringing in there diesels.
If Americans would give diesel a chance, they'd find it's more efficient and reliable than hybrids! The EPA needs to leave the diesels alone and quit jacking around with the diesel's standards. Diesels are NOT POLLUTANTS; IT'S THE FACTORIES! DR. DIESEL'S IDEA HAS WORKED SO WELL THAT IT IS BETTER AND MORE FUEL EFFICIENT, NOT TO MENTION CAN BE USED EVERYWHERE, UNLIKE HYBRIDS! I SURE HOPE SUBARU BRINGS THEIR DIESEL HERE, FOR I'D OWN ONE, KNOWING SUBARU'S RELIABILITY, IT WILL BE GREAT!
@youtoobe169 its mostly the EPA.... if you read between the lines, their intention appears to be to separate consumer energy and commercial energy, so the prices can be independently (and arbitrarily) regulated at different rates.
If you start the motor before the light has switched off, the glow plugs won´t have finished heating thus causing the motor the need to crank over more before actually running and you also run the risk of damaging them.
The reason is because diesel engines do not have spark plugs, and the combustion of the diesel fuel is acheived by compression which produces heat. Think of the glow plugs as heaters. There is one in each cylinder and when you put the key in contact, they heat up until they are glowing red-hot, which makes it easier to produce the initial combustion.
UUhhmm... I heard sumthing about this thing, but i continuin' to don't understand why u need respect this rule. Can u tell me why u need wait the glow plug light switches off? i know that u need do this passage to wait the ABS and other systems switches off and just after u can start ur engine. But is there any else explanation?
Did you put a diesel engine into an outback?!

@huppypuppy No, it's not the government that hates diesels, it's the silly consumers that don't "get" it.

You won't be able to get the Outback 2.0D in America - the government there hates diesels in cars with a passion!
