Our experiments didn't pan out in the lab today, so we decided to play with some dry ice that came in. We made some centrifuge tube poppers to scare the undergrads, but eventually that got boring. So we decided to play with the cardboard robot armor that we made for the undergrads to wear(for our amusement) and someone had the idea to use the large centrifuge conical tubes and launch them out of graduated cylinders to make a mortar. We got some tape and made adjustments to the robot suit and here are the results.

  • Btw, the tubes landed 50-70 feet away. Even we were impressed by the results. We have plans to improve and shoot farther, but we have to wait for more dry ice to come in and the bosses to be out.
