The weather finally cleared up enough to start my deck garden for this year. Had to stay up really late to do it though, since I work nights.
The composting tomato trick is described here:

  • You are in WA right? Good for you my man! Genetically MODIFIED!? (She pulls her hair with both hands) Very nice setup, love the trellis, I wonder how many people living near you have a set up like this!

I have a few neighbors who have deck gardens. One guy grew quite a few tomatoes and his deck never gets direct sunlight. I envy the people off to the right of my condo. The back of their condos get direct sunlight through the winter. I'd have a nice window garden all winter if I lived in one of those units. I could even have a nice deck garden even if I lived in one of the 2nd floor units. It just wouldn't be as big as the one I have now.

  • Beautiful compost....people have no idea how easy it is to make yet they go buy compost and potting soil for a premium.

  • I consider "old" to be anyone ten years older than me....when I was18, 28 was old...now that I'm 44, 54 is old!

That would be awesome indeed. I could do a lot with a 90'X100' garden (and a real house where I could install solar panels & a water catchment system. I've thought about leaving the city from time to time but I just can't leave this awesome job. I can't hope to earn anywhere near what I make here if I move. Since I'm a frugal guy who enjoys a simple unassuming lifestyle, I've been able to pound down a lot of debt this way. Give me a year and I'll be totally debt free!

  • I love to see everybody's gardens, thanks for posting!

Thanks! Some would say I am though. Back when I was 20, 43 seemed old to me. Nowadays it doesn't. Interesting how your perspective changes.

I don't really consider myself a young man or and old man. I'm just a man. Life is good.

  • What I had in mine was you being my neighbor out here in the countryside.

My garden is about 90' x 100' and i sure could use your help. You have lots of other skills that will come in handy also.

The only drawback, there are no buses for you to work on!

Thanks for the invite and the vids.

Good for you! I don't know if you feel the same way but having all those buckets of beans and rice (and all the other food) makes me feel a whole lot more secure.

  • Ahhh......you're not old ;)
