2010 Seven Mile Bridge Run - Raw Video

A North Carolina dentist won the overall mens division of the annual Seven Mile Bridge Run in the Florida Keys Saturday for the fifth time, despite his phobia of crossing bridges over water.

Jason Bodnar, 40, of Biltmore Lake posted a time of 37 minutes, 43 seconds. It was the fastest time of 1,500 participants who competed in the annual footrace over the longest bridge on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway.

I do have the phobia of bridges still, said Bodnar. But, when Im running I stay towards the middle and dont look side-to-side.

Andrew Greenridge, 45, of Coconut Creek, Fla., placed second in mens at 38:31, while Miami resident Jon Williams, 41, placed third at 38:51.

Marlene Persson, 39, ran 41:55 to place first in the overall womens division. It was the third victory for the Deerfield Beach, Fla., physical therapy technician, who said temperatures in the mid 70s and an almost 20 mph breeze from the east, southeast helped her.

Bodnars wife, Jennifer, 38, was second in womens with a time of 45:39, while Helena Bursa, 34, of Big Pine Key, Fla., ran 47:02 for third place.

The race temporarily closed the iconic Seven Mile Bridge to traffic for about two hours Saturday morning, but there were no major issues according to law enforcement officials.

The event was first staged in 1982, to celebrate the completion a federally funded construction project to build 37 modern spans to replace an aging bridges originally adapted from Henry Flaglers Overseas Railroad.

Great vid, brings back awesome memories. Did the bridge run back in 2000. With the gulf on one side and the atlantic on the other, wat more can u ask for. Have done all distances, but thers something special about this one, the vibe u feel running thru that tropical breeze and the warm sun makes u want to burst out and sing...."One love one heart,lets get together and feel allllllrrrriiiiiggghhhhtttt".
