A Documentary created for a high school history class on the Spanish Civil War, using movies to portray the events of the time. Black and white footage of the era was taken from the six-part BBC documentary "The Spanish Civil War". The films "Land and Freedom", "Las Libertarias", "La Lengua de las Mariposas" and "El Laberinto del Fauno" were also used to portray the period.

This edition is a revision of the original, with some corrected errors and some different footage taken in certain sections.

  • You are disrespecting the Carlists by the oversimplification of their contribution to this war. They wanted a different monarchy and not the current boubon line of Juan Carlos who was picked as king by the facists. Do you understand that the current king of Spain was a no body selected by a facist dictator to be king and not the lawful king of Spain? The real king of spain is in exile and his party are called Carlists.

  • @euqsabtnatillim

I certainly do not mean to disrespect Carlists, I simply did not have time to go into all the factions within the Nationalist Front. I chose to talk about the one that was most out of place and ultimately had the biggest political influence.

  • Was that footage from Land and Freedom by Ken Loach? If so, you should know that Loach was offered historical consultancy from actual Spanish Civil War veterans, but declined in favor of using an anarchist book for his film.

  • @pepitopene1 what are you on about? Juan Carlos and his family ran away from Spain at the first sign of trouble and would again. The life of indolent luxury is all they understand. The Carlists stand for a life style of hard work sacrifice and religious piety. They are against the disposability of the human being and the abuse of Capitalism. A real monarchy, their motto says it all viva christo rey! long live christ the king!

  • @euqsabtnatillim Jessup would say to this that the real king is simply the one that has the bigger better guns; he might even say that it's not the voters who elect a ruler, but it's rather the guns which elect a ruler. Ever seen righteousness shoot at a gun?

But then again, Jessup is crazy.

  • Listen, the Carlists alone ran three other so called civil wars before this on their own right? They were a bit more than a faction.Franco knew most of them were of Basque stock. He ordered them to fight the Basques in the end knowing the order meant killing their brothers and allies. He promised them a Carlist king it never happened. Some of the first volunteers after the war in ETA were Carlists. This united right wing stuff is complete bullshit and simplistic.
