AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING PLANT DELPHI GENERATES $5.5 MILLION SCRAP REDUCTION COST SAVINGS IN 20 SHORT MONTHS THROUGH JOINT UAW-MANAGEMENT EFFORT DUE TO EXCELLENT CULTURES

A United Auto Workers (UAW) automotive parts manufacturer put $5.5 million in cost savings on the bottom line, while simultaneously reducing grievances by 76%.

Creating Excellence in Challenging Times
Most of our clients engage in improving their high-performance businesses when times and business are good. It can be difficult to see possibilities in the middle of challenging times like these, or when your company is in crisis— and then to have the courage to follow through on your convictions. It's far easier to give up and move on.

A mid-size UAW workforce firm, based in Michigan, supplies component parts to car manufacturers. The automotive industry has been suffering heavy losses and that, naturally, impacts the company. What's more, its parent company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2006 and was required to restructure its entire hourly workforce.

The result was devastating.
In 2006, one of the firm's manufacturing sites faced an unprecedented workforce turnover of more than 85% over a nine-month period.

At Plant 6 specifically, the turnover topped 90%. In January 2007, the organization's leadership contracted with Excellent Cultures to implement the research-based cultural transformation process our partnership provides. Results have been dramatic.

A change in culture is easily witnessed when walking through the plants on site. Even though their industry faces unprecedented challenges, this manufacturing company is now a high-performance business. Bottom-line measures prove the economic health of the organization.

Their efforts were highlighted in a presentation at the National Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) conference June 2008 in Washington D.C.

The joint effort between UAW leadership and Salary Leadership is the cornerstone for the tremendous success the firm is experiencing. Just a few of the measurable accomplishments of the culture transformation process in Plant 6 alone through June of 2008 include:

1. More than $5.5 million in cost savings
2. 20 consecutive months beating revenue budgets
3. 34% reduction in Formal Customer Complaints (2008 vs 2007)
4. 60% reduction in plant floor scrap
5. Grievances down 76%

A law of business and life is this:

What gets measured, improves.
Step one is measurement. Imagine going on a diet to lose weight and never getting on the scale.

The Excellent Cultures High Performance Business DNA Diagnostic scientifically measures your organizational culture and provides you with the insight to transform it to its highest level of performance.
