Kinryu-no-Mai or Golden Dragon Dance is performed every year in Asakusa, Tokyo to celebrate the founding of Senso-ji Temple.

On March 18, 628 AD two fisherman found a small gold Buddhist statue in the river. Supposedely, a Golden Dragon appeared in the sky to mark the event. A temple was built for the statue and Asakusa grew from then on.

  • Weird. I don't know why the opening title credit is orange instead of Gold like the rest. Ah, screw it anyway! I'm not getting paid for this.

    Enjoy!

  • Dave,

This brought back some great memories! I was rushing around Tokyo last year, trying to pick up some friends visiting from the US (at Narita), and wanted to see the Harajuku parade for St. Patrick's Day. Fortunately, we were staying at the lovely Asakusa Sakura Hostel, so I managed to catch the dragon dance at Senso-Ji and the Parade in Harajuku--HUZZAH!

  • Nice comparison of perpectives about dragons. Great video!

  • that was a cool vid
