Dark Fall: The Journal (Part 1)

Hands down, THE best game in the Myst/Riven first person adventure vein.

Creator Jonathan Boakes is a GENIUS.

What really sells the whole thing though is the ghosts. They all have great personalities and writing behind them, and seem like the sort of people you'd love to have a chat with over tea. If it weren't for the fact that they were dead, of course.

Basically, you get that creepy phone call from your brother, Peter Crowhurst, a surveyor. You get on a train to see if he's okay, and get dumped in the middle of the tunnel for no apparent reason, and you can't go back. It turns out that the site of the hotel has played host to a whole bunch of mysterious dissappearences, and the (quite chatty) ghosts of the missing persons are haunting the hotel. You set about trying to figure out what happened on the site and escape in the process

Dark Fall II is even better. What's funny is that these 2 games are scarier than any scary movie Hollywood ever made. I actually feel sorry for everyone who didn't experience Darkfall one and two.

I love how Dark Fall 1 and 2 are so scary. You can't die, you can't lose the game. But you still feel intense fear. Amazing job by the makers of these two amazing games.

Great game, Massive fan of jonathan Boakes, So looking forward to the last crown.

I have to say though that Myst and especially Riven are top of the list when it comes to first person adventure games.

I don't use the word genius lightly, But Riven is simply that, the likes of we may never see again in this lifetime.

I completely agree that this is the best first person adventure game created so far. It just seems like so many developers now go for either amazing graphics or extreme gore instead of focusing on the atmosphere and puzzles like Mr. Boakes did when he created this game.
