Mark Walters of BIGFANBOY.com talks to director Darryl Roberts about the new documentary AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL. This interview was done at the AFI DALLAS FILM FESTIVAL in March of 2007.
that's what I found to be shocking in college was that everything we see in magazine, movies, billboard , books, and etc., are all touch up. That just made me feel like shit, that i even wanted to look like a girl that don't exits. College really gave me live skills. this world is unbalance.
I imagine that society (particularly male) would love to see young women feel bad about themselves, because in most of men's minds, if a girl feels bad about herself, she's easier to sleep with and a man can do whatever he wants to her. That's the way I see it, honestly. It's disgusting.
I've been working with people who suffering from ED's (all types, all ages, and both sexes) and their loved ones because they are suffering too. I'm fully recovered from Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa. I began at age 6 yrs. and I almost died. I love helping people because I understand how they are feeling. I live in S., CA (Orange County) and I'm an ANAD Resource Person.
Is this on DVD somewhere? I think the solution to this problem is that they need to have a balanced representation of women in these fashion , health and beauty ads. As well as on the runways. Sorry but skinny white girls don't sell clothes to me. I bet if they had a balance of size 0's to size 16's mixed on those runways, they'd make a hell of a lot more money in the fashion industry. Right now all they're selling is a fantasy of what THEY think everyone should look like.
Go Mark!!!!! I must've missed this film at the festival in Dallas but I saw the screening last night at the Angelika. It is a MUST SEE!! What concerned me was all the chemicals in our products. I have used all natural & safe, chemical free products for 28 years and I look and feel fantastic!! If you'd like to know more, please contact me. We can stop purchasing from those companies that don't care. There is ONE company that does and that is the Shaklee Corporation.
I met the director, and the model Garren, when they appeared here in NYC at the screening before it opened. i took pics and loved schmoozing with such authentic, real people as they are. even the mom was there and she seems nicer than she comes across on the film. she loves her daughter. garren mentioned she plans on going to college at USC. good for her. i love the she will be studying psychology. she sure has wisdom from her modeling days! GREAT FILM. it's a must-see, really it is!
