She says she needs space. What does this mean and what can I do?

I have been in a long distance relationship for about a year and a half. Everything seemed to be going fine. We talked every day before going to bed and texted a bunch during the day. The plan was always that she was going to move to be with me after she graduated school. Now just this week she stopped texting and calling. When I finally got her on the phone she told me that she needed space and that she was concerned about how committed I was to her. I'm really confused because I don't feel that I have done anything to cause these feelings that she is having. I love this girl to death and she says that she still loves me. Don't you love how that woman makes it seem like there's always a valid reason for wanting space(school,work,problems). What a fallacy. I've known some women to use this as an excuse to sleep with someone they've been wanting to sleep with for a while so they won't be accused of cheating. Some women use it as a loophole in the "contract" of commitment. If your relationship has problems then communication is the answer. The last thing you need is "space". For me, Space = It's over forever

@VAMPXIII Man this is tricky one, may be u need to start looking for other girls. Else if she ask for space, u just have to give her exactly that, stop contacting her, mean time she might try to be nice to u for sake of being friends, dont ever let that happen, coz its going to hurt u more. U either be her boyfriend or lose her for ever...! Make her feel jelous every way possible, as long as she dosent love anyone else more than u she will come back to u soon, but for the moment give her space!

But if u really wants him back (I mean really really) then u need to dress much hotter & look sexier, & also make other men chase u, may be it will make ur boyfriend realise what he is missing. since the relationship is not going the way shed like it to, she feels insecure about your feelings towards her and wants to quickly break up with you before you have the oppurtunity to reject her first. we are very hurt and angry if you dont pursue us during this space period, we will punish you greatly by not even telling you that we officially broke it off and we will start dating again without even telling you. this is very cruel, but we feel it is not, because in our mind you lied and toyed with are heart for the last few months and are pissed.
